As promised, in preparation for RML’s upcoming 1 Week Live Food Chef Certification* with Master Herbalist, Raw Food Chef & author Brigitte Mars, Raw Food Chef Juliano & ra’yoKa founder Rainbeau Mars, here are some amazing health facts about the potent superfood, chia and how best to incorporate these powerful seeds into your diet. I am also including one of my favorite chia seed recipes for you to enjoy and share with your loved ones! Be empowered, share the knowledge, spread the Love. The time is now!
Brief History of Chia
The common name, chia, derives from the Mayan chiabaan, meaning, “strengthening.” The native peoples of the American Southwest for endurance have long used chia seeds, where tribe’s people could run swiftly on a handful of chia seeds and a gourd of water. They are fast becoming a favorite for athletes today. Chia seeds have long been used used to correct constipation being rich in soluble fiber. They are considered an energy tonic that moistens the yin (fluids) of the body enhancing joint activity and sexual health.
Quick Facts about Chia
- Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 and 6 fatty acids – even more than flax.
- Chias are also rich in protein, (20% on a dry weight basis), vitamin B complex (especially niacin (B3) and riboflavin(B2), and biotin calcium, potassium and fiber.
- Chia contains immune activating mucopolysaccharides and the antioxidant quercetin.
- Chia helps to regulate blood sugar levels, thus curbing the desire to overeat.
- According to Asian Medicine, foods that are naturally black in color support the Kidneys and Bladder.
- Chia has more fiber than bran.
- Chia has 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries, 15 times more magnesium than broccoli, and 3 times more iron than spinach.
Chia Quick Prep Instructions
Soak one forth cup chia seeds in 1 to 2 cups pure water overnight and stir well to prevent the seeds from clumping. Allow to stand overnight on the counter or refrigerator. Add more water if needed. The seeds do not need to be ground up in order to be digested, but if one suffers from diverticulitis, grind the amount you would consume in one day for even easier digestion.
How to Use Chia
One of my favorite ways to use chia is as a breakfast, snack or dessert pudding. Chia can also make a great vegan mock tapioca pudding with almond milk. Once you have soaked the seeds for a minimum of 15 minutes (in water, juice or nut milk), you can add chopped/dried fruit or berries, nuts/seeds/nut butters, and honey, agave or maple syrup. Be creative! Sometimes I even add raw chocolate or a raw chocolate spread with almond butter for that extra bit of decadence. Adding soaked chias to smoothies creates a thick, frothy smoothie or milkshake substitute. Chia seeds can also be added to crackers, cookies, granola, salads to add more nutrients, omega 3’s and fiber to recipes. Chia seeds + water can be used as a egg substitute in recipes.
My Favorite Chia Recipe
1/4 cup chia seeds
1 cup of vanilla almond/rice milk
1 cup of sliced strawberries
1 tbsp raw almond butter
1 tbsp raw chocolate spread/syrup (optional)
Maple syrup to taste
dash of cinnamon
dash of sea salt
Soak chia seeds in almond milk over night. Stir after first 10-15 of soaking minutes to break up any clumps, and then place in refrigerator overnight. The next morning, stir in a dash of cinnamon and maple syrup. Add sliced strawberries. Drizzle almond butter and chocolate syrup on top. Sprinkle with sea salt. Enjoy!

As I walk through the valley of my egos.
I pray that anything old – all unnecessary patterns or and anything holding me back in anyway may be surrendered.
I ask for support in transitioning into the full embodiment of what I know I was born to be. Who I know we have the potential to be.
As a servant and a supporter to all things healing in the world, I ask for the grace, that I can fearlessly focus on this destiny.
Goodbye yesterdays of self doubt, fear and judgment of self or others.
Goodbye comparing, or making self small to make others feel more comfortable.
Goodbye sabotaging patterns and moments of hiding and falling asleep.
Goodbye, not having enough time to be in the most important place there is in the world. The Present.
Goodbye not having enough patience to let someone else proof read a newsletter.
I ask dear Grace – for your unconditional compassion, love, support and forgiveness.
I will honor my promises to you – please show me how I can be of service you.
I ask that all beings every single one, that I have hurt on any single level, in any way forgive me now.
I forgive every single being weather known or unknown that as hurt me in any way..
Lets forgive each other-
Lets love each other
Lets forgive ourselves
Lets love ourselves.

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter’s evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light, which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
- Woodrow Wilson
I cannot say that I am an expert on dreams, but I know that I am definitely a dreamer. i do it almost every night and most days. I am sure that the dreams I have are what helps give me passion and makes me strive to do my best every day. Not to mention have given me a light to focus on, even when the world has seemed like it was caving in.
I know that if we are playing basketball and we feel that we might make a basket, then our chances are if not now, but eventually, through practice, that we will score. That if we know we will not make that basket, that most likely, pretty much for sure we will not. It’s the subconscious doubting that often is creating doubt and sabotaging the realization of our dreams.
It takes practice, self-realization, determination and creativity to awaken day after day with a knowing that regardless of how many negative reasons there are for doubting, that we believe that the sky is limitless and that we can do if we can dream it. I find my dreams, when I let go of the conscious material needs and instead, I close my eyes, listen to nothing but the sound of my breath and feel. From that place, I can feel what experiences or things excite me, make my heart beat faster and inspire. I do my best to live on the edge of what is as real and as tangible as possible, while always reaching for the stars, one dream and step at a time.
I still have very grand dreams and each day I do my best to follow what seems both challenging and doable in an effort to walk towards the direction of my dreams, knowing that each step, each lesson is one more in the direction towards the ultimate passions, mission and destiny.
Rather then I’ll believe it when I see it.. I do my best to think…. I believe it, so I’ll see it.
I dream of participating every media outlet possible to help be part of the solution on the planet, from books to DVD’s to films, I love to create and I love to share. I dream of a planet that is healthy in mind and body. Where we see ourselves as one global planet working together for the common good of citizens. I have what I feel to be an amazing film project, television project, kids media project, fitness system, Holistic shopping center and books. I wake up every day placing one foot in front of the other to fulfill what I have been dreaming about since I can remember. I dream of being part of the solution and of serving in a global way.
What are your dreams? How can serve each other in fulfilling them? If not us, then who? If not now, then when? We are the ones we’ve been waiting for and I know that now is the time for a quantum shift for we the dreamers to dream of a world that is healed and well cares for.
Thank you for sharing, supporting and being part of our interweaving of dreams together. HERE’S TO OUR DREAMS! May they continue forever.
Bless,
Commitment photo by the very talented Jasper Johal
“Integrity is doing what we say we are going to do.”
Of course, someone needs to talk the walk, others can walk the walk, but few of us can actually walk the talk.
We go one Step, we do our best to improve, and yet – As simple as it can be in the beginning, the commitment to build a truly lasting foundation is not always easy.
I think the question is…Who are you REALLY and what were you before? With this awareness we can learn from the past and we can gaze into the future. Commitment to cultivating our most authentic selves possible is something we are all working towards. We need to first decide the direction we are headed and then be sure to assess each situation and choice we make as a road sign, making sure that it is pointed in that same direction.
1. Getting on the Mat and finding one pointed concentration – the practice of focusing ourselves fully into doing a posture, or sequence in a way to support presence, loyalty, and commitment. When it gets difficult, when your mind wanders, notice…can you come back. Can you breathe, can you stay focused on the moment, finding that if you stray, you come back to that focus again and again…Yogis call it Chitta Vritti Nirodaha – ONE POINTED CONCENTRATION. We can find this of course in martial arts, at the gym, in our personal sport, on a surf board, or even in the garden.
2. Can we decide what our goals are for ourselves and then let our actions be in alignment towards those goals? Can we do that for one day, two days, …try 21? HAIL TO THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE JOINING ME ON THE 3 Week Fresh Start right now; It’s always SUCH A PLEASURE. Those of you that are not on the daily emails and conference calls, can follow along on an abbreviated level to the ra’yoKa cleanse that is given as a bonus in the ra’yoKa DVD (currently half off, in gratitude for everyone’s support and to make up for shipping costs).
3. Each Time we do what we say we are going to do – We strengthen our confidence, pride, and courage, as well as people’s belief in us. It’s a very good thing to practice and most of all, it feels great to know we are setting a positive example to the people around us. They will wonder why we are beginning to manifest the things we want, and when we can share these tools with them, they’ll feel empowered to do likewise.
4. Whatever we focus on expands. I know that all I can do is my best. I have faith and trust that we all are and its up to each one of us to keep raising our own bar, to do better, better and get to our own best. It’s not about what anyone else is doing; we compete only with our own ideal, with our potential always challenging us to progress further. For example, I can make commitments and do my best to meet them, but if I do not, I must observe what impeded or compromised me and must renegotiate with the person I committed to, or myself, according to the reason I had to break my integrity. Patterns become habitual and we may consistently break our integrity to ourselves if we are not sitting fully in the driver’s seat of our own lives – so let’s place our hands on the steering wheel!
5. First We Have to Know Where We are Going – Then we need to make sure we are headed in the right direction. First working slowly and conscientiously, until it becomes second nature – Remember, work: first Smart, then Hard.
6. It takes the mind about five to seven times of saying it’s going to do something before it does it… like checking out a new fitness system, yoga studio, cleanse, program, dance club, art class or language – you name it. Situations that involve transitions, or when it gets too easy, or when we are not held accountable, is where focus and integrity can get a little muddy… ultimately we are only cheating ourselves. Find ways to write down your goals, talk to friends, or a support group to make yourself accountable and more firmly dedicated to meet your goals.
7. One of the Best resources when we seek to nurture ourselves, like in the 3 Week Fresh Start, is the Group Support. For instance, we raised our hands and repeated our commitments to each other- to become accountable. It’s so refreshing to feel free to speak your fears, lacks, and limitations on paper or out loud, before you throw it away, and then meet with a friend or group, to direct focus away from that limitation and instead concentrating on what you are planning to do next. Place far more attention on who you really are and where you know you are going rather than sitting with or holding on to the past of where you’ve been. Stay in communication, support each other, and give more – which is how you get more.
8. It gets easier. As we develop this network of self-blossoming minded peers, we not only a role model of our virtues, but we also surround ourselves with other bright lights whom have their own special gifts to emulate. My representative, Lon Rosen has such a hard time being late, because he is always on time, or early and I must tell you it’s one of the most attractive qualities in the world to me. No wonder he represents some of the world’s biggest stars. I observe qualities that I like in people and I do my best to apply them in my own life.
9. Every day is an opportunity for each of us to align with where we are going and to allow anything that does not support that vision, to fall away. With each choice, you can just change your story… is it working for you or against you?
COMMITMENT.
I know that nothing tastes as good as feeling good feels. I am committed to FEELING MY BEST! I am committed to Loving myself and the people around me with compassion, empathy, support, quality time and doing what I say I am going to do.
I am committed to my practice. To finding some time every single day to get so my ra’yoKa, either at the stairs, in a room or to a dvd at home. I will spend time meditating on the different levels that exist inside me and internally organizing. Allowing that to resonate into the center and the world around me, from the office to the sock drawer, it’s all a manifestation of what’s happening inside and vice versa.
I am committed to the next level of success… I let all past experiences go.. all I can be is who I am right now. I am fearlessly jumping. I trust in what’s to come, but the flying time in the air of free falling is glorious.
I am committed to serving my community and I know that sharing is a way that I can truly help the world be a more beautiful place.
I am committed to doing the best I can.
I am committed to my 3 Week Fresh Start – to serving and leading teachers to the best they possibly can and having the best training here even in November.
I am committed to fully activating myself and my art and sharing through every media platform possible, from the micro to the macro.
I am committed to breathing fully into my destiny.
Today.
What is in the way is the way.
World – Here We Come- ready, willing and able to play! I say YES!
The very word brings about a sense of heart felt compassion, empathy as well as experience.
A.D.D.I.C.T.I.O.N
1. I see in there A.D.D. or attention deficit disorder, something that most fast thinking genius’s can relate to. 2. I.C./SEE – is it some coping mechanism that gives us temporary insight or help us see? 3. I ON -I am on it? hmmmm….. Semantics; the meaning of words are very powerful. Unfortunately, though, like any athlete, the more we use a muscle, the better we get at it, so using the insight or chemicals released even from something as simple as serotonin from carbohydrate rushes can be informative. Ultimately as observers of our own vehicles/bodies, it is our job to become better and better to learn how to feel good, relaxed, focused and insightful, and of course we know we are given everything we need to do such, including the experiences of life and its substances.
We all find ways to attach ourselves to something that seems insightful, nourishing, validating, or just takes off the edge in this fast paced world where any number of things are all somehow happening at once and what’s it all for anyways? Without the tools, or understanding or, connection to something infinite we define and hold on to what helps us feel good and fill the void, unfortunately temporarily. This might be any number of addictions or identifications and some of them would be considered good while others bad, its us, who usually judges and puts the label on it, but one might say, if it makes us healthier = good, if it makes us unhealthier = not good. I would say, if you can learn from it and take it with you permanently, building blocks to your ultimate goals, then AWESOME.
We can become addicted to food (so its not what but how), sex (which without is none of us would be here), cigarettes (pure tobacco can be used in ceremony for many indigenous tribes), marijuana (becoming more known as a medicine, when taken internally and not smoked), alcohol (occurs naturally and can kill a cold), attention (something that fuels many an industry, such as hollywood and rock stardom), knowledge (sometimes we get so caught up with what we know, that we forget to practice it), people (we need each other, but can we stand in the silence by ourselves as well?), sugar (nothing wrong with a little sweetness in life, but there could be too much?), bread (gluten has the word glue in it), cleansing (at times necessary and very healthy, but – we also must find time to rebuild in a healthy way), self help (My teacher always told me that I would be my own guru, so I look within as much as possible for the answers I seek, but am I known to get that advice of others?…CONSTANTLY), on and on… SO… IN CONCLUSION… It’s not really a matter of who has had some level of experience of these types of things, but more so, to what extent and the labeling of each individuals relationship to the thing.
We might say – but how can one be addicted to the healthy things like exercise, yoga or knowledge; but we need to drop all the judgments and see the reality of little by little how we can be defined ourselves by something that we can put into ourselves. The truth is the input is necessary, but it is the attachment that can go along with it, that can at times become dangerous. And its not what we put in that is ultimately the issue, but our relationship to the necessity of it, loosing total control and or abuse of it. So in essence, its always OURSELVES that we need to heal, not the thing. We can see addiction, understand it, realize it and change it when we try to commit a day or a week without something, make promises, commit to just stopping, and we absolutely cannot. So all of it can be okay – and yet, ultimately we need to align with what we take with us instead of what we do not.
Overcoming Addiction- SOLUTION: 1.Don’t bite off more than you can chew, or make goals that are unrealistic so that you think of yourself as a failure. 2.Could you be addicted to limiting beliefs about yourself? Or, how about overly inflated ones?
3.All we have to do is take steps in the right direction, with absolute compassion and self embrace, to slowly but surely love ourselves enough to nourish and support the insight that we are actually looking for. 4. Don’t give the power to the thing or the addiction by affirming it. Observe it, and come back to your true powerful state of a beautiful, healthy, spiritual being having a human experience and all the attachments we may encounter during this awesome adventure.
Whatever we focus on expands, so I try to focus on implementing ROUTINES, OR DISCIPLINES in myself and my clients of my one life that aligns me with our utmost intention. What are my goals and what will I do, to set up my actions to line up with them? We come back to this attention again and again and again.
Example:
“I want to be healthy and beautiful - but I can’t stop drinking, smoking and engaging in toxic relationships that cause stress and premature aging.” hmmmm…. HOW MUCH DOES THIS PERSON REALLY WANT THE GOAL? Are they feeding the goal or the problem? The solution is always about what tools and actions can I take that help me align with my intentions rather than take me in another direction.
Challenge – Can you take three weeks of your life to observe the things you are most addicted too and maybe don’t even realize you are–drama, TV, toxic comfort food–to reclaim the beauty and health that already abounds inside of you and is just waiting to be revealed? JUST THREE WEEKS, because that’s how long it actually takes to break a pattern. Power happens in numbers, and through support of community and accountability, WE CAN OVERCOME ANYTHING.
“Nothing tastes as good as feeling good feels” but at the same time, beauty and indulgence coexist. You don’t have to calorie count and you get to eat as much as you want, but we will avoid anything that could be blocking us from living at our most aligned potential for just a few short weeks. You can always go back to your old patterns after the fact, but I GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOU WILL FEEL SO GOOD, that you will have a platform that you will want to come back to as much as possible and most likely will actually do this again and again on your own, or with other groups.
I like to support people wherever they are at and maybe help them get a little better, better, and eventually best – wherever you are – we can take the steps together to firstly realize there is an addiction as we all have them, and secondly, break the patterns to become more of who we really are.
1. We are about to embark on a 3 Week Fresh Start together at the RML Holistic Headquarters – that starts Sunday, OCT 3rd from 5 – 7pm; reconvenes Saturday, Oct. 9th with special Guest Speaker Brigitte Mars and others TBD (chefs, and scientists); and finalize Sunday, October 17th with a Final Celebration Potluck on Sunday October 23th. You can join us virtually and receive daily emails, recipes, and updates along with our manual and we are looking into teleconferencing you in, or if you are in the area, join us in person. Please call our office 323 – 933 – 5118, or email info@rainbeaumars.com to sign up today.
Michelangelo said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”
THAT’S US. As we observe and, at the same time, nourish ourselves with totally healing thoughts and foods, we step by step become more of who we really are and the addictions…well they fall away and the more we exist in alignment with who we want to be. If we want to stop doing something, we must do something else. Make a step to fill the body and life with things that support our bodies and minds so that you can exist at your optimal and serve in the ways we can live a passion filled life.
All, health, beauty, and addiction free naturally.
Bless,
Rainbeau
