When it comes to using essential oils, there are a few safety guidelines you’ll want to abide by. Here are some of the best practices for safe essential oil usage:
• Dilute before applying to skin
Essential oils are highly concentrated and should almost always be diluted with a carrier oil such as jojoba, coconut, or almond oil before topical use. This helps reduce the risk of irritation or sensitivity.
• Patch test first
Before using a new oil on a larger area of the body, apply a small diluted amount to a patch of skin and wait 24 hours to check for any reaction.
• Use only as directed
More is not better. A few drops are often enough to experience the benefits. Follow recommended dilution ratios and usage guidelines.
• Be mindful of sensitive groups
Pregnant or nursing individuals, children, pets, and those with medical conditions should consult a qualified professional before use. Some oils are not suitable for these groups.
• Avoid eyes and mucous membranes
