The Mayas have been enjoying this cozy and healing beverage for thousands of years, now we're sharing our little earth-conscious recipe to bring you all the holiday cheer(s!)
Ingredients you will need:
Plant milk (unsweetened, any type you prefer, I use oat milk)
Carob powder – I use one that has 10-12% cocoa butter content
Maple syrup (or date syrup, agave syrup…etc.)
Optional: vanilla extract, extra cinnamon, vegan whipped cream, marshmallows, etc.
Step 1 Bring the plant milk to a boil in a small pot. Step 2 Add the cocoa powder and maple syrup. Mix until everything is dissolved.
Enjoy with whipped creme and/or marshmallows.
Twist the flavor by adding
pumpkin spice
gingerbread
orange zest or orange essential oil
peppermint extract or peppermint essential oil

The "twist"—that hint of sea salt and a dash of cayenne—is absolutely brilliant. It cuts through the richness of the coconut milk and elevates the cocoa to a sophisticated, cafe-quality treat. I love how the recipe emphasizes the importance of whisking for that perfect, frothy texture. I’ve been using this Gradient Background Tool for my recent UI projects, and it has honestly become one of my favorite parts of my design stack.
It manages to take a nostalgic classic and give it a sophisticated makeover, proving that you don't need dairy to achieve that rich, velvety texture we all crave during a quiet evening. Once you have your mug of cocoa in hand and you're settled in, you might be looking for a low-stakes way to kick back and disconnect for a while.
