Tips & Tricks to Starting a Meditation Practice

Meditation and mindfulness is in! From celebrities, nannies, housekeepers, and even goats, everyone is doing it. Thankfully so, but it can also be hard, aggravating, and not so pretty to reach to that calming, oh so needed place in your brain. We even understand the urge to skip it entirely or leave it for tomorrow. Yet, when we do take the time to sit with ourselves, in our very essence, magic can happen. Pains in the body lessen, focus intensifies, and overall we feel a sense of happiness. To put it simple, we don't sweat the small stuff and the bigger challenges are easier to deal with. Since we believe in a stress free world where mindfulness is 2nd nature we've compiled some tips and tricks to help you start your own meditation practice.

You snooze you lose and consistency is key. Pick a time every morning that you can commit to, stick with it, and see the beauty unfold.

Breathe baby breathe. As the mind wanders, which naturally it will, come back to your breath. Your breath is one of your greatest tools to keep you present and in the moment.

Inch your way with ease. It can be a struggle, dare I say boring to just sit with yourself. Start with a small number, say 3 minutes a day and lengthen your practice gradually through time.

Tech it out! It's 2019 and we are blessed with technology. If you are not sure where to begin your practice start with an app. Many of the popular mindfulness apps today offer practices for first timers to meditation veterans.

Take these tools, start small and don't be too hard on yourself if you miss a day. When you slowly start to invite this new type of awareness into your life things can change for the better. Now that you have the tools to build a solid foundation it will allow you to move through life from a place of compassion and empathy. Notice how your relationship to yourself and to those around you change for the better. Have fun with it and remember Rome was not built in a day!
